If you think about the church, you’ll probably think of the cross. The cross has been considered as a symbol of the church or Jesus’ sacrifice. So it can be easily found inside and outside the church and around believers. However, when we read the Bible and focus on what God said, we can understand that this situation about the cross is very wrong. And also we can easily verify that WMSCOG which has no cross is the true church according to the word of God, the Bible. Let’s confirm it through God’s word.

Ex 20:4-6 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

This is the 2nd commandment of the Ten commandments of God. God commanded us to not make for ourselves an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. God said that we shall not bow down to them or worship them. What does it mean? It means that God commanded us to not worship idols. When God noticed about idols, He said that it can be any image in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. And there’s no mention that the cross is fine. The cross is not an exception. Following God’s commandments, we must never make or worship idols including the cross.

Lev 26:1 “ ‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.”

God repeatedly said that do not make idols. An image, a sacred stone, or a carved stone are idols. We shall not set up idols or bow down before it including the cross.

Jer 10:1-5 Hear what the Lord says to you, people of Israel. This is what the Lord says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them. For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.”

As God’s people, we must learn and keep the way of God, not the ways of the nations. God taught us that to make idols and worship it is the way of the nations which we shall never learn and follow. There’s no reason we should make and worship it. Let’s think about the cross. As God said in this verse, the cross cannot speak. The cross must be carried because they cannot walk. We don’t need to fear the cross because it can do no harm nor can it do any good. The cross is nothing but just a worthless wooden idol. To erect a cross in a church is absolutely non-biblical.

Deu 27:15 “Cursed is anyone who makes an idol—a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”

The cross is nothing, but a cursed thing to God. He said that it’s a thing detestable to God. Is there any reason to erect the cross, as God said so far? Indeed, not erecting the cross in WMSCOG is following the word of God and the Bible. The 1st commandment of the Ten Commandments is that ‘you shall have no other gods before me’. As God’s people, we must worship only God, not other gods. Worshiping the cross is to violate the first commandment of the Ten Commandments as well as the second commandment of the Ten commandments.

As God commanded us, WMSCOG has no cross anywhere. WMSCOG keeps the truth of the New Covenant what Jesus established by His precious sacrifice on the cross. If you believe Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and wanna commemorate it, you must keep the truth of the New Covenant. We can keep all the truth of the New Covenant in WMSCOG.
