In the Old Testament, there is a law regarding city of refuge. During that era, all murderers were subject to the death penalty. However, God allowed a special law for unintentional murder. If they escaped into a city of refuge, they could save their lives from avengers.

[Numbers 35:11-12] select some towns to be your cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone accidentally may flee. They will be places of refuge from the avenger, so that a person accused of murder may not die before he stands trial before the assembly.

Although intentional murderers may hide in the city of refuge, they still have to face the consequences and be executed.

[Numbers 35:16-17] 'If a man strikes someone with an iron object so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death. Or if anyone has a stone in his hand that could kill, and he strikes someone so that he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.

And there is a unique way for unintentional murderers to return to their hometown: the death of the high priest.

[Numbers 35:25] The assembly must protect the one accused of murder from the avenger of blood and send him back to the city of refuge to which he fled. He must stay there until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

[Daniel 9:24] Seventy 'sevens' are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.



According to this prophecy, Jesus Christ, who came down to this world as the high priest, died on the cross instead of the people of God. Before his death, Jesus Christ opened the way to receive forgiveness for sin, which is the New Covenant Passover. The Bible tells us that we are all sinners from heaven. Since we are sinners living in the city of refuge, Jesus Christ, as the high priest, received the death penalty instead of us. But Satan abolished the New Covenant Passover, which is why Christ AhnSahngHong came down again to restore the truths. We should find the way to forgiveness for our sins.
