The Sin of Taking God’s Word as a Joke

In the Bible, there are lots of words of prophecy of God. However, many people in the world often think that it is unlikely that everything written in the Bible will be fulfilled.
Let's take a look at the records of the Bible about those who regard the words of God as a joke. By doing so, let us learn how we should spend this time of faith in these last days.

1) Lot's sons-in-law

Genesis 19:13-14
because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the LORD against its people is so great that he has sent us to destroy it."
So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters. He said, "Hurry and get out of this place because the LORD is about to destroy the city!" But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.

In the time of Sodom and Gomorrah, in order to escape disasters, Lot delivered God's words to his sons-in-law. But, they regarded them as a joke and couldn't survive in destruction.

2) People who regarded Jesus' words as a joke

Luke 21:20
"When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.

2000 years ago, Jesus prophesied the destruction of Israel and warned that when people see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, people must flee away. When this happened, those who believed in Jesus' words fled to the city of Pella and survived, while those who regarded them as a joke faced a terrible end.

In these last days, too, there are still the prophecies about the Last Judgment of Fire that remain before us.

2 Peter 3: 10, 14-15
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

As the Bible teaches us, we must not regard the words of prophecy as a joke just like Lot's sons-in-law.
We should have firm faith in this prophecy and make preparations so that we can be found blameless and spotless before Christ.
